Ratio & Proportion – Basic Concept

Ratio & Proportion is an another important chapter from competition point of view. First of all I would like to clear you the base concept of problems from this chapter. This chapter is one of the easiest chapters for students to solve with less calculations. These type of questions are  frequently asked in SSC, IBPS, Bank, RRB, bank clerical and other exams. Now lets read the concepts of Aptitude Problems on Ratio & Proportions,

Proportional Division:- To divide a given quantity in such parts which are in the given ratio, is called proportional division and parts are known as proportional parts.
Example:- If Quantity “y” is to be divided into three parts which are in the ratio of a:b:c then
                        First Part = (a/a+b+c) × y

                         Second Part = (b/a+b+c) × y

                         Third Part = (c/a+b+c) × y

Mean Proportional:- The mean proportional between a and b is given by-

                          Mean Proportional = √(a×b)

Third Proportional:- If x be the third proportional to a and b then third proportional is given by-  a:b::b:x → a/b  = b/x

                           Third Proportional = b2/a

Forth Proportional:- If x be the forth proportional to a, b and c then forth proportional is given by - a:b::c:x → a/b  = c/x

                            Forth Proportional = (b × c)/a

Componendo- Dividendo Rule:-
                                                            If a:b :: c:d

                                     Then, (a+b)/(a-b) = (c+d)/(c-d)
                                                                or
                                                (a-b)/(a+b) = (c-d)/(c+d)

Hope you have enjoyed the base concept of this chapter till now. More Conceptual enjoyment with the Various Questions related to this chapter which are frequently asked in the examinations will be presented to your for self study on this blog soon, just keep visiting this blog regularly and writing me your related queries through comment or forum.

Best of Luck for Exams. To be continued soon........................
